Labor unions in Poland launch separate protests in Warsaw and Bogdanka
Labor unions in Poland are engaging in distinct protest actions across the country. In Warsaw, members of the Podbeskidzie region of the NSZZ ‘Solidarność’ union are traveling to the capital to join ongoing demonstrations in front of the Constitutional Tribunal. The protesters aim to defend the independence of the institution, following a period of rotational shifts and continuous presence at the site since mid-October.
Simultaneously, miners at the Bogdanka coal mine have initiated a protest against the management of Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka. Union leaders, including Jacek Świrszcz and Jarosław Niemiec, are demanding concrete declarations from the Ministry of State Assets regarding the future of the mine. The protesters expressed concerns over the lack of a clear plan for the state-owned company amidst the energy transition and have indicated they will remain at the management headquarters until decisive government representatives meet with them. The company management has scheduled a meeting with union representatives for November 3 to discuss their demands.
