Ladysmith joins British Columbia e-scooter pilot
Ladysmith has joined the British Columbia provincial electric kick scooter pilot project, allowing the use of e-scooters on town roads. The municipality is one of 15 on Vancouver Island to permit the devices as part of a four-year provincial study designed to evaluate whether e-scooters should be authorized for permanent use in the province.
To ride legally under the pilot, users must be at least 16 years old, wear an approved helmet, obey traffic signals, and refrain from riding while impaired or using electronic devices. Safety data from the pilot has highlighted risks, with reports from Kelowna General Hospital indicating that 85 per cent of e-scooter-related injuries were linked to riders not wearing helmets.
