Lagonegro: Military officer killed in A2 motorway collision

A 23-year-old military officer serving with the Capitaneria di Porto died following a violent multi-vehicle collision on the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo near the Lagonegro junction in the province of Potenza.

The accident occurred around 2:30 AM and involved two cars and a heavy truck. Despite the rapid intervention of emergency responders, the young man from Corigliano-Rossano succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the truck was largely uninjured, while the driver of the second car sustained minor injuries and was later discharged from the hospital.

Emergency services, including Suem 118, firefighters, and Anas personnel, attended the scene. Highway police have conducted investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the crash and determine responsibility. The vehicles involved have been seized by judicial authorities, and the victim's body has been made available to the judiciary for medical-legal examinations. The incident caused temporary traffic delays on the A2 motorway during rescue and recovery operations.
