Lagor: Portuguese couple shot dead by neighbor following long-standing dispute

A Portuguese couple, Avelino (85) and Alcina (82), was shot and killed in the garden of their home in the village of Lagor, located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region of France.

The primary suspect is a 90-year-old neighbor, also of Portuguese nationality, who has been detained and placed in pre-trial detention. Investigations suggest the killings were the culmination of a decades-long dispute between the two families involving trivial issues such as shared walls, water drainage, and parking.

The suspect reportedly told authorities that after an altercation in which he claimed to have been struck in the head, he retrieved a hunting rifle, returned to the garden, and shot both victims. The local community has been deeply affected by the violence, leading the local municipality to cancel scheduled weekend festivities in mourning.
