Lagos approves monorail design for airport rail link

Nigeria has approved the design for a monorail intended to connect the Ikeja Railway Station to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The project aims to provide passengers with an alternative to congested road routes by linking the terminus of the Lagos Red Line to the airport.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo announced that the approved design includes five planned stations: Ikeja Station, Domestic Airport Station, Beesam Station, Toll Gate Station, and the MMIA Airport Station. The monorail will serve Terminal 1, which is currently undergoing a comprehensive reconstruction and modernization program to improve passenger processing, immigration, and customs facilities.

While the design is approved, authorities have not yet confirmed a construction start date or service commencement date. Discussions regarding the project's financing are reportedly at an advanced stage.
