Lagos-Ibadan Expressway faces heavy gridlock after trailer crash

A major trailer crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Simawa axis has caused severe traffic gridlock. The accident, which occurred around 1:00 AM on Tuesday, left the outbound carriageway blocked, forcing traffic into a single lane and causing miles of standstill congestion.

Motorists have attempted to bypass the bottleneck by using residential roads in Mowe and Ofada, as well as driving against the flow of traffic. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) reported that reckless driving and lane-hopping have further hindered efforts to clear the scene. Authorities, including the FRSC and police, have been deployed to manage the situation.

Local residents have attributed the prevalence of one-way driving to the lack of accessible service lanes and the long distances required to reach U-turns. Some community members noted that areas intended for service lanes have been occupied by businesses, complicating movement for those trying to access nearby communities.
