Lagos police retirees seek Assembly intervention over pension delays

The Lagos State Chapter of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (ARPON) has appealed to the Lagos State House of Assembly for intervention regarding delayed and inadequate pension and gratuity payments. A delegation led by Secretary DSP Oluwashina Akilade (Rtd.) met with lawmakers to highlight the financial hardships faced by former officers due to the rising cost of living and the complexities of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

The association noted that while other federal security institutions, including the military, have exited the Contributory Pension Scheme, the Nigeria Police Force remains under its constraints. The retirees are seeking political and institutional support to resolve these issues, particularly as legislation intended to address these pension concerns has passed the National Assembly and is currently awaiting presidential assent.

In response, the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Noheem Adams, acknowledged the contributions of the retired officers to national security. He stated that the Assembly would take note of the concerns, obtain contact details from the association, and consult with leadership to determine a formal position on the matter.
