The Lagos State Government inaugurated the rehabilitated Road E and new disposal platforms at the Olusosun Disposal Facility in Ojota. The project, executed by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), aims to ease operational bottlenecks in waste handling. LAWMA Managing Director Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin said the upgrade will improve access and allow more trucks to discharge waste simultaneously, cutting turnaround time.

Zoomlion Nigeria Ltd carried out the road rehabilitation under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme. The company is also building Transfer Loading Stations at Olusosun and Solous III, each capable of processing 2,500 metric tonnes of waste per day. The state plans to acquire additional compactor trucks over the next three years and is developing material‑recovery facilities, waste‑to‑energy plants and biogas plants. Olusosun currently receives about half of Lagos’s municipal solid waste, and the upgraded infrastructure is intended to clear the growing refuse backlog on city streets.

Heavy rainfall had previously damaged sections of Road E, slowing the movement of compactor trucks. The new road and platforms are therefore seen as a critical step toward a more efficient and resilient waste‑management system for Lagos.
