Lagos State intensifies wastewater management and waste compliance enforcement
Lagos State environmental agencies are intensifying efforts to improve waste and wastewater management through professional training and regulatory enforcement.
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), in partnership with the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers, will host a two-day technical workshop on September 2–3, 2026. The program, themed ‘Effective Operation of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs),’ aims to equip operators and professionals with skills in plant maintenance, wastewater microbiology, and laboratory analysis to prevent environmental pollution.
Simultaneously, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced compliance enforcement actions across the Ajah-Lekki axis. Numerous commercial and institutional facilities, including various malls, hotels, and churches, have been identified for persistent violations of waste management requirements. LAWMA officials stated that enforcement measures will be taken against establishments that continue to default on their environmental obligations.
