Lagos State University appoints Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as Vice Chancellor
Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo has officially assumed office as the 10th substantive Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU). Appointed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Badejo succeeds Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose tenure concluded on September 19, 2026.
Badejo, a Professor of Counselling Psychology with over 30 years of experience in academia and research, has pledged to lead through dialogue, participation, and inclusiveness. Her administration aims to foster an environment of collective engagement to advance the university’s goals in teaching, research, and innovation.
Separately, a spokesperson for the immediate-past Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has addressed social media controversy regarding her previous comments on university funding. The spokesperson clarified that Olatunji-Bello’s remarks about the ₦1m annual cost of quality undergraduate education were intended to highlight the expenses required for global-standard education and the need for diversified funding, rather than a proposal that such costs be directly transferred to students or parents.
