Lagos State University Vice-Chancellor transitions leadership

Outgoing Lagos State University (LASU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has concluded her tenure, calling on her successor, Professor Olawunmi Badejo, to uphold the institution's academic integrity and respect the role of the Senate in academic governance.

During her valedictory lecture, Olatunji-Bello emphasized the importance of consultation and the courage to make difficult decisions. She encouraged the incoming administration to improve upon existing systems and embrace change to meet future demands. Her tenure, which began on September 16, 2021, concluded on September 19.

In recognition of her leadership, a biopic titled ‘Madam Vice Chancellor: Against the Odds’ recently premiered in Lagos. Produced by the Women & Girls Empowerment Foundation International (WOGEFI), the film chronicles Olatunji-Bello’s resilient journey to the vice-chancellorship, including her previous unsuccessful attempts at the position. The production involved interviews with over 50 colleagues, students, and friends to reconstruct her career and leadership experiences.
