Lagos Waste Management Authority dismisses staff over illegal dumping

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has dismissed several street sweepers, their supervisors, and the associated service provider following investigations into indiscriminate waste dumping. The disciplinary action was taken after surveillance identified the personnel dumping waste on the median along the Oworonshoki-Berger axis, a known waste blackspot.

LAWMA Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, stated that the affected workers confessed to the act during the investigation. He emphasized that the disengagement serves to demonstrate the authority’s commitment to high waste management standards and ensuring that all personnel contribute to solving, rather than exacerbating, environmental challenges.

In a separate incident, LAWMA enforcement officials arrested two individuals suspected of illegal waste dumping in the same Berger-Oworonshoki area.
