Lahj authorities issue emergency appeal for displaced families

The local government in Yemen’s Lahj governorate has issued an urgent appeal to international organizations, regional bodies, and humanitarian agencies to address a growing displacement crisis. The emergency committee, comprising various local planning, health, and social affairs offices, reported that an unprecedented influx of families is fleeing escalating military operations in neighboring areas, specifically mentioning the Al-Subayhah districts.

The surge in displaced persons has reportedly exceeded the governorate’s current capacity to provide essential services. The authorities have identified several critical humanitarian priorities, including the urgent need for shelter, tents, bedding, and emergency food baskets.

Additionally, the appeal calls for immediate medical assistance, including medicines and emergency healthcare services, to manage health issues arising from new environmental conditions. To prevent the spread of disease, the committee emphasized the need for clean drinking water distribution points and improved sanitation services. The local leadership also requested direct financial assistance to help families meet their daily basic needs following the loss of income due to displacement.
