Lai Chau Province hands over first 7 homes to flood‑affected families in Mường Than

Following severe flooding in July 2024 that destroyed homes in Mường Than commune, Lai Chau province launched an emergency resettlement project covering about 10,000 m² near the village of Sân Bay, roughly 4 km from the landslide zone. More than 400 provincial officials, military personnel and construction crews worked around the clock to build new houses for the 24 households that lost their homes completely.

On 30 July, the provincial Military Command, together with the local Party and People's Committee, handed over the first seven completed houses to the families of seven affected households. The remaining 17 houses are being rushed to finish by mid‑August, with the goal of completing the entire settlement before the 2027 rainy season. The provincial response also included evacuating 2,149 people from 318 households to temporary shelters, providing food, health care, sanitation and security while damage assessments and support for affected families continued.

The project reflects the provincial authorities’ commitment to quickly restore safe housing and enable affected families to resume production and normal life after the disaster.
