Vietnam landslides and flood relief

Entities: Mường Than commune · Lê Minh Ngân · Lai Chau Provincial Military Command · Lai Châu Province

Overview

Heavy monsoon rains in mid‑July 2026 triggered landslides across Vietnam, burying homes in Lào Cai, collapsing houses into the Cửa Lớn River in Cà Mau, and flooding Muong Than commune in Lai Chau. Provincial authorities deployed rescue teams, supplied food and medicine, and mobilised the military to evacuate affected families. The Lai Chau Military Command was tasked with building a new settlement of 24 four‑room houses, roads, water, electricity and drainage, with Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dũng inspecting the site on 21 July and Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao pledging completion by 30 August.

On 30 July, the province handed over the first seven completed homes to the families of seven flood‑displaced households. The remaining 17 houses are being rushed for finish by mid‑August, with the goal of completing the whole settlement before the 2027 rainy season. In total, 2,149 people from 318 households have been moved to temporary shelters, receiving food, health care, sanitation and security while damage assessments continue. The ongoing effort highlights the continued coordination of provincial officials, military personnel and construction crews to restore safe housing and enable affected families to resume normal life.
