Lake Balaton food prices reach new highs this summer

Summer visitors to Hungary’s Lake Balaton are facing steep prices at beach cafés. A basic hamburger now starts at about 3,500 HUF, with premium options such as a beef burger with caramelised onion topping costing up to 5,390 HUF. Ice‑cream scoops average 650–800 HUF per scoop across the region. Entry fees for paid beaches also vary widely, from 800 HUF at smaller sites to 10,000 HUF at premium locations.

Lángos, the classic fried dough snack, is similarly priced. Simple versions are sold for 1,300–1,500 HUF, while cheese‑and‑sour‑cream varieties can reach 2,200–2,600 HUF, and specialty toppings such as ham, bacon or gyros push prices above 3,000 HUF, with some premium stalls charging near 4,000 HUF. In contrast, a few smaller vendors on the southern shore list a plain lángos for as low as 690 HUF.

Industry officials note that high seasonal operating costs, staff wages, rent, utilities and short summer windows drive the price structure, explaining the disparity between locations.
