Lake Balaton sees rising popularity among Polish tourists

Lake Balaton is increasingly becoming a year-round destination for Polish tourists, moving beyond its traditional reputation as a summer beach resort. Data from VisitBalaton365 indicates that in July 2026, nearly 30,000 Polish tourists visited the region, representing a 7 percent increase compared to the previous year. Poland has recorded the highest growth dynamics among the region's major foreign markets.

Interest in the area remains strong outside the peak summer season. According to the Hungarian Statistical Office, the number of foreign guests in September 2025 was 18 percent higher than the year before, with positive trends continuing into subsequent months.

Off-season activities are shifting toward enotourism, thermal baths, hiking, and cycling. Key attractions include the volcanic hills and vineyards near Badacsony on the northern shore, as well as the natural thermal lake in Hévíz. Tourism officials suggest that promoting these quieter, weather-independent experiences can further drive growth in the Polish market.
