Lake Balaton tourism grows despite shorter stays

Official data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) indicates that tourism in Veszprém County, which encompasses the Lake Balaton region, is growing rather than declining. According to 2025 figures, the region registered 1,341,614 guests, an increase from 1,296,619 in the previous year and 1,211,397 in 2023.

While the total number of guests and overnight stays is rising, there is a notable shift in travel patterns. The average length of stay per guest has decreased from approximately 2.79 nights in 2022 to roughly 2.62 nights in 2025. This suggests a trend toward shorter trips, such as long weekends, rather than traditional extended vacations.
