LaLiga implements new technology and targets 6 billion euro revenue
LaLiga is implementing several strategic changes regarding technology, revenue targets, and media rights distribution. The league is set to become the first national championship to adopt connected ball technology using Kinexon sensors inside Puma balls. This technology, previously used by FIFA, will support VAR and semi-automated offside technology (SAOT) while providing a new data feed called ‘Ball’ for broadcasts.
Financially, LaLiga aims to reach revenues of nearly 6 billion euros by the 2026/27 season, with a goal to exceed that figure in 2027/28. This growth strategy is intended to narrow the financial gap with the English Premier League. Recent growth has been driven by commercial areas and audiovisual rights.
Regarding media rights for the 2026/27 season, the distribution remains governed by Spanish law (Real Decreto-ley 5/2015). Under this model, 90% of centrally marketed media revenues are allocated to the Primera División and 10% to the Segunda División. Within the top flight, funds are distributed based on a fixed base, sporting results from the last five seasons, and social anchoring metrics.
