Lalka film release features star-studded cast and period costumes

The film adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s classic novel ‘Lalka’, directed by Maciej Kawalski, has been released in cinemas. The production features a prominent cast, including Marcin Dorociński as Stanisław Wokulski and Marek Kondrat returning to the screen as Ignacy Rzecki.

In interviews regarding the premiere, Dorociński expressed his gratitude for working alongside Kondrat, stating that the veteran actor's presence was essential to his portrayal of Wokulski. Dorociński also noted the personal significance of playing the iconic lead role, comparing the challenge to previous interpretations of the character.

The film’s historical authenticity is supported by detailed costume work. The Gniezno-based company Polanex produced over 200 period-accurate shirts for actors and extras. Designed by Katarzyna Lewińska and Tomasz Ossoliński, these garments required the company to adapt to 19th-century cuts and proportions, marking their largest film commission to date.
