Vietnam pursues maritime strength and high GDP growth targets
Vietnam is pursuing several strategic domestic and international objectives. At the Vietnam Maritime Forum 2026, held in Hanoi, leaders and experts emphasized transforming international cooperation and resources into national maritime strength. Discussions focused on sustainable marine development, science, technology, and the importance of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in managing maritime space and resources.
Economically, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has set a high target for Q4 2026 GDP growth of over 12.5% to achieve double-digit annual growth, following a strong 9.01% increase in the first nine months. The government is also addressing challenges such as global supply chain disruptions and inflation. In the industrial sector, the textile and garment industry is accelerating green and digital transitions to maintain competitiveness and meet export targets.
On the diplomatic front, President To Lam has received several ambassadors presenting their credentials, reinforcing bilateral ties and Vietnam's commitment to independent and multilateral foreign policies. Locally, various provinces are implementing development plans, including tourism integration in Quang Ngai and community support programs in Lao Cai.
