Lampedusa receives 71 migrants following Mediterranean rescue operations

Multiple rescue operations in the central Mediterranean have resulted in 71 migrants being transferred to Lampedusa. The Italian vessel Asso Venticinque rescued 56 sub-Saharan migrants approximately 70 miles from the Pelagie Islands after an alert from Alarm Phone. These individuals reported departing from Libya and paying between 500 and 1,000 euros for the crossing.

Other arrivals to Lampedusa included four Tunisian citizens recovered from the island of Lampione and 11 migrants from Somalia and Sudan. Following these arrivals, the capacity of the Lampedusa hotspot in contrada Imbriacola stands at 288 guests.

In a separate incident, a vessel carrying approximately 80 men, believed to be of sub-Saharan origin, reached the coast at Portopalo di Capo Passero in the Syracuse area. Local civil protection volunteers provided initial assistance as authorities began identification procedures.
