Overview

In late July 2026, authorities transferred 119 migrants from Lampedusa to Rome via an International Organization for Migration flight to alleviate pressure on the island’s reception facilities. At that time, rough sea conditions had temporarily stalled new arrivals.

By mid-August, migration activity resumed following several Mediterranean rescue operations.
