Lanao del Sur prepares for historic Bangsamoro parliamentary elections

Candidates for the upcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary elections in Lanao del Sur have signed a peace covenant in Marawi City to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process. During the ceremony, aspirants swore before the Holy Quran to commit to principled participation and the peaceful acceptance of election results.

To bolster security for the September 14 polls, the Philippine Army has deployed the 28th Infantry Battalion to the province as an augmentation force. This deployment, under the operational control of the 101st Infantry Brigade, aims to prevent voter intimidation and disruption. Additional troops from the Army’s 1st Infantry Division are also expected to arrive to support the security operations.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified Lanao del Sur as having a high number of areas of concern within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The historic elections will determine 80 seats, including party system seats, single parliamentary district seats, and sectoral representatives.
