Land registration and homeownership initiatives expand in Uganda and Guyana

In Apac district, Uganda, 26,000 households are set to benefit from land registration initiatives designed to reduce conflicts and secure property rights. The effort is split between the government’s Systematic Land Adjudication and Certification (SLAC) programme, which targets 24,000 households, and the Eastern and Southern Africa Small Scale Farmers Forum (ESAFF) project, which aims to support 2,000 households through a self-financing model.

Meanwhile, in Guyana, the Ministry of Housing has processed over 8,500 certificates of title in the first eight months of 2026. Minister Collin Croal stated that the ministry aims to exceed its annual target of 10,000 titles and is working to reduce the turnaround time for legal ownership to under three months. This initiative is part of a broader five-year housing agenda intended to assist over 40,000 people in achieving homeownership and to address a national backlog of 75,000 house-lot applicants.
