Land Rover unveils street-legal Defender Dakar rally model

Land Rover has unveiled the Defender Dakar, a road-legal, limited-edition version of the D7X-R vehicle that secured top positions in the 2026 Dakar Rally. Positioned above the Octa model, this new flagship is designed for high-performance off-roading on public highways.

The vehicle is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 626 hp and approximately 750 Nm of torque, delivered through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It utilizes the rugged D7x base and features a specialized suspension system with Bilstein dampers instead of air springs. This setup includes specific driving modes such as Dunes, Gravel, and a unique Flight mode designed to manage compression and rebound during jumps.

Exterior enhancements include 35-inch tires on 20-inch forged wheels, carbon-fiber air intakes, flared arches with exposed rivets, and roof-mounted light pods. The interior will feature rally-inspired elements, including racing seats and optional four-point harnesses. The model was previewed at Monterey Car Week with an estimated price of approximately $170,000.
