Landslides and flooding hit Nghệ An and Thanh Hóa provinces

Heavy rainfall has triggered severe landslides and flooding across Nghệ An and Thanh Hóa provinces in Vietnam. In Nghệ An, a massive landslide in Huồi Pai village completely buried a section of Provincial Road 543C. This incident has isolated approximately 300 households, affecting between 1,000 and 1,200 people in the Huồi Pai and Chà Lúm villages. Local authorities report that the landslide occurred with significant speed, carrying large amounts of earth, rocks, and trees. There is ongoing concern regarding further landslides as unstable debris remains on the mountainside.

In Thanh Hóa, the situation is equally critical. The province has declared a natural disaster emergency following widespread flooding and landslides. Approximately 9,000 households have experienced flooding, and dozens of locations on national and provincial highways are submerged, causing traffic congestion. Over 5,000 people remain in evacuation centers, with local authorities working to ensure the supply of food and essential goods.
