Landslides and Floods in Nagaland Kill Nine, Injure Dozens

Heavy monsoon rains in India's northeastern state of Nagaland triggered severe landslides and flash floods in the Mon district. The disasters collapsed dozens of houses and buried several homes under debris, leaving at least nine people dead and more than a dozen injured. Rescue teams including the State Disaster Response Force, Assam Rifles, local police and volunteers have been conducting search‑and‑rescue operations, recovering four bodies while four more victims remain trapped under rubble.

The state government announced compensation of ₹4 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹74,000 for the seriously injured, and set up temporary relief camps to provide food and medical aid. An orange alert was issued for vulnerable hill districts, urging residents to avoid landslide‑prone zones. Political leaders expressed condolences and praised the rescue workers' efforts.

The ongoing rescue effort continues as authorities assess damage and work to restore connectivity to the hardest‑hit areas.
