Landslides in Vietnam isolate hundreds and damage roads

Heavy rainfall in Vietnam has caused significant landslides, isolating hundreds of residents in Nghe An province. In Nga My commune, a 20 km dirt road serving the Pu Huong Nature Reserve buffer zone has suffered multiple landslides. Specifically, a 15 km stretch leading to Na Ngan village is blocked by debris and fallen trees, while rising waters in the Nam Ngan stream have completely cut off the village, which is home to approximately 740 people.

The isolation poses a threat to local livelihoods, agricultural transport, and access to medical services and education. Local authorities report that several steep slopes, including Nua and Co Pong, are particularly dangerous due to ground cracks and surface subsidence.

In Quang Ngai province, landslides have also impacted infrastructure, with approximately 10,000 cubic meters of earth and rock falling onto roads in Mang Ri commune. Authorities in the region are monitoring high-risk areas and preparing for potential evacuations as heavy rains continue to affect western regions.
