France wildfires: Multiple regions hit by fires amid drought

Multiple wildfires have broken out across various regions in France amid severe drought conditions. In the Landes department, a major fire has burned approximately 1,580 hectares, leading to the evacuation of about 650 people. Firefighters have faced difficulties due to complex access to the terrain.

In the Vienne department, lightning strikes triggered a blaze in the Moulière forest near Saint-Georges-lès-Baillargeaux, destroying nearly ten hectares of vegetation. Emergency responders utilized aerial support, including water-bombing aircraft and a Super Puma helicopter, to contain the flames.

Other incidents include a fire in Viriat, Ain, where two houses were destroyed and approximately ten people sustained minor injuries, including firefighters suffering from heat exhaustion. Additionally, previous large-scale fires in the Gironde region continue to be a point of focus for emergency reinforcements and local resilience efforts.
