Spain regional initiatives focus on youth engagement and vocational training

Various regional initiatives in Spain are focusing on youth engagement, vocational training, and employment support. In La Laguna, the Pasaporte Joven 2026 program is hosting a week of activities including music, dance, gaming, and outdoor cinema across several neighborhoods to encourage social interaction among young people.

In Lanzarote, there is a high demand for manual trades such as plumbing, electricity, and masonry, prompting educational authorities to promote vocational training to counter the preference for technology-based careers. Similarly, the Fundación Mapfre and Fundación Accem recently concluded the ‘Taller de Aprendices 2026’ program, which provided 340 hours of technical training in construction trades to 117 vulnerable individuals across eight Spanish territories.

Other local efforts include the renewal of the ‘Senderos Educativos’ program in Lanzarote to provide environmental education through nature routes, and the successful completion of employment workshops in Valladolid, which achieved a 56% job placement rate for participants. Additionally, the Ayuntamiento de Antigua recognized six students for completing practical internships, and the Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos in Gijón awarded six scholarships to support university and vocational studies.
