Lao Cai accountant arrested for 30 billion VND embezzlement

Lao Cai provincial police have arrested and detained Dang Thi Ly, born in 1981, a former accountant for the Bat Xat District Project Management Board, on charges of embezzlement.

Investigations revealed that between February 2018 and October 2023, Ly forged the signature of the Board's Director on 111 fraudulent documents and payment orders. Through these falsified records, she illegally withdrew construction warranty funds for various projects managed by the Board, misappropriating more than 30 billion VND.

Authorities have issued decisions to prosecute the criminal case and search her residence as the investigation continues to identify other involved individuals and organizations.
