L'Aquila to host photography workshop for youth in juvenile justice

The Fondazione MAXXI has launched ‘Lumen: Laboratorio di fotografia’, a photography workshop designed for minors and young adults within the juvenile justice system. Approved by the L'Aquila municipal government as part of the ‘L'Aquila Capitale italiana della Cultura 2026’ programming, the initiative aims to use contemporary art as a tool for personal growth, social inclusion, and emotional expression.

Led by visual artist Claudia Pajewski in collaboration with the Department for Juvenile and Community Justice, the project will run in two cycles between September and December 2026. The initiative is supported by a €35,750 contribution from the Municipality of L'Aquila, funded through the ReStart 2 program, toward a total cost of €52,550. To bridge the gap between participants and the community, the resulting works will be exhibited at the MAXXI, within the juvenile detention institute, and in public spaces throughout L'Aquila's historic center.
