Lara State emergency services respond to heavy rainfall and flooding

The National Risk Management System has been activated in Lara State, Venezuela, following intense rainfall, electrical discharges, and wind gusts recorded on Wednesday, August 26. The weather conditions are attributed to the interaction of Tropical Wave No. 41, the approach of Tropical Wave No. 42, and activity from the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

Emergency services, including Protection Civil, the Iribarren Fire Department, and the Guardia del Pueblo, have been deployed to manage various incidents. Reported issues include fallen trees obstructing public roads in the Iribarren and Palavecino municipalities, and damage to homes, such as detached or blown-off roofs in the El Cují, Tamaca, and Unión parishes, as well as the Trinidad Samuel parish in Torres.

In Barquisimeto, saturated drainage systems caused temporary flooding in the central district. Specific areas affected by rising water levels and flooded homes include San Jacinto, Prados del Norte, Los Libertadores de Tamaca, Los Robles in Sabana Grande, and Lomas de León. Authorities are conducting technical inspections and remain on permanent alert in vulnerable areas to provide immediate assistance.
