Larissa engages in European educational and governance initiatives

The city of Larissa is engaging in significant international educational and governance initiatives. The 7th General Lyceum of Larissa, an Erasmus+ accredited school, completed a diverse program of European activities for the 2025–2026 academic year. This included student and teacher mobilities to Tychy, Poland, where participants engaged in workshops and visited historical sites such as Auschwitz, and to Sicily, Italy, to study Mediterranean culture and history.

Simultaneously, Larissa has been selected to participate in the Bloomberg LSE European City Leadership Initiative. Mayor Thanasis Mamakos joined mayors and senior officials from 17 countries in London to collaborate on innovative governance practices. The program aims to address shared urban challenges, including the climate crisis and service improvement. Mayor Mamakos noted that the initiative provides an opportunity to transition from post-flood recovery to integrated future planning for the city while sharing Larissa's own experiences with other European municipalities.
