Larissa European educational and governance engagement

Overview

Larissa is participating in various European educational and governance initiatives. In early October 2026, the city hosted a Council of Europe workshop titled ‘Use of ICT in support of language teaching and learning (ICT-REV)’. Organized by the Larissa Directorate of Primary Education in collaboration with the European Centre for Modern Languages, the event focused on using digital tools and open resources to enhance language instruction in online and blended learning environments.

Additionally, the 7th General Lyceum of Larissa completed its 2025–2026 Erasmus+ program, which included student and teacher mobilities to Poland and Italy. On the governance level, Mayor Thanasis Mamakos joined the Bloomberg LSE European City Leadership Initiative in London. This program involves officials from 17 countries collaborating on urban challenges such as the climate crisis and service improvement, allowing the city to transition from post-flood recovery toward integrated future planning.
