Larissa Manoela wins legal battle over childhood contract
Brazilian actress Larissa Manoela has secured a legal victory regarding a contract signed in 2012 when she was 11 years old. The Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro's 15th Private Law Chamber rejected an appeal by the record label Deck Produções Artísticas Ltda., upholding the termination of the contractual relationship.
In addition to maintaining the end of the contract, judges ordered a modification to the sentence to explicitly state that all audiovisual materials produced during the contract's term belong to the artist. The dispute originated from a musical career agreement managed by Manoela's parents, Silvana Taques and Gilberto Elias, at the time of signing. The legal battle intensified after Manoela became an adult and began managing her own professional and financial affairs.
Manoela's defense had previously argued that the contract contained a lifetime clause and that she lacked direct access to earnings from digital platforms. Deck Produções Artísticas Ltda. contested the lifetime interpretation of the document.
