Larissa: Man killed by train on Thessaloniki-Larissa line

A fatal incident occurred on the Thessaloniki-Larissa railway line near Larissa when a man was struck and killed by a Hellenic Train suburban service. The incident took place at approximately 09:12 on a Thursday.

The driver of the train, which was carrying 68 passengers, reported seeing an individual on the tracks and immediately activated the automatic braking system and warning signals. Despite these efforts, the collision could not be avoided. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances, with some reports suggesting the possibility of suicide, noting that the individual may have been waiting on the tracks.

Emergency services, including the Fire Service, Police, and EKAB, responded to the scene. The train was immobilized, and the passengers were transported to Larissa via buses. The incident has caused delays and potential schedule modifications on the Thessaloniki-Larissa line. Hellenic Train has expressed its condolences and is cooperating with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the tragedy.
