Larsen & Toubro and Hitachi Energy sign 2 GW offshore wind deal with TenneT
Larsen & Toubro (L&T), in consortium with Hitachi Energy, has concluded a Framework Cooperation Agreement with European transmission system operator TenneT. The agreement covers a 2 GW offshore wind programme that will deliver up to 8 GW of HVDC transmission capacity at 525 kV.
The consortium will continue two existing projects – IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 – in the Netherlands and will start two new projects, Nederwiek 3 in the Netherlands and LanWin 5 in Germany. L&T will supply offshore converter platforms and related infrastructure, while Hitachi Energy will provide its HVDC Light® technology for power conversion and transmission.
The deal, valued at more than ₹15,000 crore, aims to integrate renewable energy generated in the Dutch and German North Sea sectors into onshore European power grids, supporting the continent’s decarbonisation and clean‑energy goals.
