Larsen & Toubro secures ₹100‑150 bn NTPC power contract and pledges ₹5,000 cr EV electronics expansion

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Energy CarbonLite Solutions has received a Limited Notice to Proceed from state‑run NTPC Ltd for the Lara Stage‑III thermal power project in Chhattisgarh. The mega project includes two 800 MW ultra‑supercritical units and is valued at Rs 10,000‑15,000 crore, adding 1,600 MW of baseload capacity to India's grid. L&T will handle design, engineering, manufacturing, erection and commissioning of boilers, turbines, generators and related systems.

In parallel, L&T announced a ₹5,000 crore (≈ ₹50 bn) investment over the next five years to expand its automotive electronics business. The plan creates a 40‑acre manufacturing hub in Coimbatore and R&D centres in Bengaluru to produce electric‑vehicle traction motors, drive‑control units and advanced driver‑assistance systems, following an initial order for 500,000 traction motors. The dual strategy aims to diversify L&T’s portfolio beyond traditional engineering projects while supporting India's clean‑energy and EV ambitions. T. Madhava Das, senior executive at L&T, said the power contract marks the company's third ultra‑supercritical project with NTPC in two years.
