L&T expands EPC contract portfolio
Entities: NTPC Ltd · Chhattisgarh · Larsen & Toubro · T. Madhava Das · Coimbatore
Overview
In late July 2026, Larsen & Toubro announced two successive waves of large engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) wins. On July 20, its Metals & Minerals division disclosed multiple domestic contracts worth roughly ₹10,000‑15,000 crore each for an 18‑MTPA iron‑ore handling plant in Chhattisgarh, a steel‑plant expansion in West Bengal and a zinc‑processing facility, underscoring the company's role in India's metals and mining infrastructure.
Four days later, L&T Heavy Engineering reported a series of international orders valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore across Asia, Africa, North America, South America and Europe. Projects include the world’s largest fluid catalytic cracking reactor‑regenerator package for refinery and fertilizer expansions in Nigeria and Ethiopia, heat exchangers for an LNG project in Canada, and core process equipment for customers in Spain, the United States and Brazil. A repeat order from a Japanese client added further LNG heat‑exchanger work, and Anil Parab, Whole‑time Director & Senior Executive Vice President – Manufacturing, said the contracts “reaffirm the trust and confidence that customers place in L&T’s world‑class manufacturing capabilities.”
On July 31, L&T secured a Limited Notice to Proceed from state‑run NTPC for the Lara Stage‑III ultra‑supercritical thermal power project in Chhattisgarh, a two‑unit, 800 MW per unit installation worth ₹10,000‑15,000 crore. Concurrently, the firm announced a ₹5,000 crore five‑year plan to expand its EV electronics business, establishing a 40‑acre manufacturing hub in Coimbatore and R&D centres in Bengaluru to produce traction motors, drive‑control units and advanced driver‑assistance systems, reflecting a broader diversification beyond traditional EPC work.
