Dominican Republic launches major housing and infrastructure projects
The Dominican Republic has launched several major housing and infrastructure initiatives. In Santo Domingo Este, the second phase of the Las Acacias III residential project has begun construction. This development will add 400 units, including duplexes and apartments, with a total investment of approximately RD$1,152 million. The project is supported by the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), Banco de Reservas, and Fiduciaria Reservas, utilizing over RD$500 million in state subsidies to provide affordable options for low- and middle-income families.
In Cotuí, the Ministry of Energy and Mines has commenced construction of 63 new homes under the Nuevos Horizontes project. This initiative is part of a large-scale resettlement agreement involving the government, Barrick Pueblo Viejo, and local communities to improve living conditions for families near mining operations. The project benefits several sectors, including El Rayo and El Naranjo, and is described by community representatives as a significant global example of resettlement through dialogue.
Additionally, the Santiago Water and Sewerage Corporation (Coraasan) is overseeing a RD$9,000 million expansion of the Cibao Central Aqueduct. This project aims to increase water capacity from 6.5 to 8 cubic meters per second to support urban and economic growth in Santiago and surrounding provinces.
