Las Palmas de Gran Canaria faces criticism over budget execution decline
The Partido Popular (PP) has denounced a decline in budget execution within the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city council during the first half of 2026. According to data released by the party, the execution rate dropped to 19.14% for the period ending June 30, 2026, compared to 21.75% during the same period in 2025.
Despite having a definitive credit of 597.92 million euros—an 8.6% increase over the previous year—the PP claims that recognized obligations decreased from 119.79 million to 114.46 million euros. The party specifically highlighted a significant drop in real investments, noting that only 4.22% of available funds for that chapter had been executed by mid-year.
Municipal spokesperson Jimena Delgado attributed these figures to management capacity issues within the government led by Carolina Darias, noting that the current execution rate is the lowest among the periods compared by the party.
