Economic and administrative developments in Las Palmas

In the first half of 2026, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria experienced contrasting economic and administrative developments. The Partido Popular (PP) criticized the city council for a decline in budget execution, noting that the rate dropped to 19.14% compared to 21.75% in the previous year. The party highlighted a significant decrease in real investments, with only 4.22% of available funds executed by mid-year. Municipal spokesperson Jimena Delgado attributed these figures to management capacity issues within the government led by Carolina Darias.

Simultaneously, the region reported growth in specific sectors. The Port of Las Palmas saw an 8.94% increase in the movement of fruits and vegetables, driven largely by banana exports. New energy initiatives were also announced, including a strategic alliance between the Satocan group and DISA to establish a hydrogen plant at the port. Other local developments included bids for urban green space maintenance and the launch of a professional online marketplace by Makro, while the Port Authority confirmed the withdrawal of a proposal for a commercial octopus farm.
