Las Palmas de Gran Canaria pushes European Capital of Culture 2031 bid with island-wide tour

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is promoting its candidacy to become the European Capital of Culture for 2031. The LPGC’31 team has been touring the Canary Islands, holding public sessions to present the project ‘Rebelión de la Geografía’ and to invite cultural practitioners to join an open call.

The outreach began on 19 June in Arrecife, Lanzarote, continued on 3 July in La Palma, and a further meeting is scheduled for 14 July in La Gomera at the former Choreographic Centre (Dād. Unidad La Gomera). Each event offers free entry and aims to explain the bid’s conceptual framework, the development of the final bid book, and the opportunities for participation.

The second Open Call targets artists, cultural managers, curators, mediators, cultural enterprises, and public institutions working in culture, education, innovation, sustainability, and social cohesion. Proposals will contribute to the programming planned for 2026‑2031 and can be submitted via the project’s websites.
