Las Pedroñeras Garlic Fair scheduled for July 24‑26 with cooking contests and live festival
The municipality of Las Pedroñeras in Cuenca has finalized the programme for the LII International Garlic Fair (FIDA), which will run from 24 to 26 July. The three‑day event features craft and culinary demonstrations, workshops, exhibitions, book presentations and a series of competitions. On Sunday, 26 July, six chefs will compete in the national Garlic Cooking Contest, with €3 500 in prize money, while a garlic‑cutting contest offers €600 for the best slicers. A junior “Master Ajo” workshop will teach young participants to cook special garlic dishes, and a natural‑remedies session will explore the health uses of Las Pedroñeras purple garlic.
The fair also includes the FIDA Festival and a “Ruta del Tapeo” of local tapas bars, with free entry and live music from DJs such as Selecta and international guest Vila Gotero, plus performances by the rock group La Frontera and the classic act Locomía. Organisers aim to make the town the reference centre for the product that sustains many families in the region.
