In early July 2026, the town of Las Pedroñeras in Castile‑La Mancha published the programme for its 52nd International Garlic Fair. The three‑day event was set to feature cooking contests, workshops, live music and a “Ruta del Tapeo” of local tapas bars, aiming to cement the town’s reputation as the centre of the region’s prized purple garlic.

The fair then took place from 24 to 26 July as planned. Regional Agriculture Minister Julián Martínez Lizán attended, highlighting government support for garlic growers and water‑security measures. Highlights included a national cooking contest judged by Michelin‑starred chef Rubén Sánchez, a garlic‑cutting competition, and a junior “Master Ajo” workshop. Free music festivals and performances rounded out the programme.

Simultaneously, in early August, the Cartaya Shrimp Fair was held in Huelva province. Organized by the local Hermandad de San Isidro Labrador, the four‑day event combined culinary celebrations with charitable fundraising and aimed to boost the town’s summer economy.

Together, the two fairs illustrate how Spanish regional authorities continue to promote traditional agri‑food products and support local economies through cultural festivals.
