LATAM Airlines and Avianca earn international awards for sustainability and loyalty programs
LATAM Airlines Group was awarded the ‘Preservation of fauna and flora’ prize at the 2026 Premios Traveling for Happiness for its CO2BIO initiative, which protects more than 420,000 hectares of Colombian Orinoquía savannas, avoids 3.75 million tonnes of CO₂ and involves local landowners and communities. Thibaud Morand, director‑general for Europe, Asia and Oceania, received the award in Madrid. The airline was also highlighted by S&P Global as the fifth‑most sustainable carrier worldwide and named an ‘Industry Mover 2025’ for its broader climate strategy.
Avianca’s Lifemiles loyalty programme won the “Up and Coming Program Award” at the Freddie Awards 2026, marking its 23rd international accolade in 15 years and making it the most‑awarded programme in the region. Vice‑president Jaime Manso noted the win while announcing new benefits, including the elite Magno status, expanded VIP lounges and a premium check‑in service at Bogotá’s El Dorado airport.
Both recognitions highlight the growing emphasis on environmental stewardship and enhanced customer experience within the Latin American airline sector.
