LATAM Airlines fleet expansion and new jets
Entities: Embraer · Latam Airlines Brasil · Scott Bessent · Porter Airlines · ANAC
Overview
By the end of 2026 LATAM Airlines Group will operate about 410 aircraft, adding more than 40 next‑generation jets – Airbus A320neo/A321neo, Boeing 787‑9 Dreamliners and Embraer E190‑E2/E195‑E2 – and will receive its first Airbus A321XLR in 2027. The mixed‑fleet programme is designed to cut fuel burn and CO₂ emissions by 20‑25 % and supports the carrier’s net‑zero‑by‑2050 target. LATAM was named Brazil’s best airline and its mobile app the top‑rated in the country, prompting a R$115 million investment in a new lounge at Guarulhos. To staff the expanding fleet the airline opened a pilot talent bank and offered a R$160 000 signing bonus to captains for the incoming E195‑E2 fleet, temporarily suspending the ICAO‑4 English‑proficiency requirement. The first Embraer E195‑E2 was delivered in June 2026 and will enter service in the fourth quarter, part of a US$2.1 billion order for 24 aircraft with 50 optional units. Test flights are scheduled for August, with routes planned across Brazil and studies for deployment in Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile. The rollout will add 25‑30 new destinations, eight new routes and four new bases, expanding the domestic network to 67 cities. At the IATA AGM LATAM’s CEO discussed Brazil’s 6‑day‑on‑1‑day‑off work‑hour reform for ground staff and outlined further fleet plans, including 24 Embraer 190‑E2 aircraft with up to 50 options and potential use of the A321XLR on Brazil‑Peru routes. LATAM earned the APEX Best cabin‑service award for South America as passenger traffic rose 5 % YoY to 7.2 million in May, with capacity up 10.8 % and new long‑haul Fortaleza‑Miami service. The group also received a sustainability prize for its CO2BIO initiative, protecting 420 000 ha and avoiding 3.75 million t CO₂, and was ranked the fifth‑most sustainable carrier by S&P Global.
