Latehar, Jharkhand: Seven dead in fatal container accident

A severe road accident in the Latehar district of Jharkhand resulted in the deaths of approximately seven people on Saturday. The incident occurred near Lukuiya Valley on the Lohardaga-Chandwa main road within the Chandwa police station area.

A speeding container lost control, first striking a motorcycle and then overturning onto a passenger tempo filled with commuters. The impact was so intense that the motorcycle and tempo were crushed beneath the container. Local residents and police used a hydra machine to recover victims from under the wreckage. Several others sustained serious injuries and were transported to the Chandwa Community Health Centre.

Preliminary investigations suggest the high speed of the container was the primary cause of the accident. The victims in the tempo were reportedly traveling from the Sansang area of Latehar toward Chapari in Lohardaga.
